Planning a Vacation?
Planning an extended vacation this season? Here are some things to consider.
Students who take extended absences miss out on the interactive learning that takes place in a classroom. Teachers develop lessons that are diverse and enriching, and engage the student in their own learning. This type of learning is not reproducible as handouts or assigned readings.
|The best part of school happens during school. Our teachers care deeply about the success of all their students.|
However, if a student is absent voluntarily, teachers will not be building a distance learning style assignment package for the student to take along. They will be able to offer an overview of learning that should happen while the child is away, with some textbook references as guidance. Then they will collect missed assignments and activities for the child during their absence. Students will need to commit to extra work when they return. Parents should help, and teachers will clarify or help with some questions, but they will not be able to re-teach the entirety of the lessons missed.
We understand the importance of your decision to take your child for this extended period of time. However, we also wish to stress the importance of the learning that happens during school. We encourage you to take this into consideration as you discuss your holiday plans.
